Brief history of the society

hms1.jpg

Founded in 1962, the Windsor & Eton Operatic Society has risen from strength to strength, producing a wide variety of opera and operetta, including operas by Verdi, Wagner, Offenbach, Pucinni, Rossini, Bizet, Tchaikowsky, and most of Gilbert and Sullivans ever popular pieces.

In the early years, the shows were put on in school halls. In 1975, the Society was fortunate to be able to perform, and continues to perform in the Farrer Theatre at Eton College.

An audience of over two thousand sees each show. In conjunction with the Rotary Club of Windsor St George Gala Night guests have included HRH The Princess Royal, HRH Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh, The Earl and Countess of Wessex and the late HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

We perform at two different venues throughout the year.  Click here for more details.
