Over 50 years of fine music - a brief history of the Society

Windsor and Eton Opera is an amateur society based in the Windsor, Eton and Maidenhead areas dedicated to bringing fine music to the area, which we have been doing for over 60 years.  WEO is a registered charity.
Founded 60 years ago in 1962, Windsor & Eton Opera (also known as Windsor & Eton Operatic Society) has risen from strength to strength, performing a wide variety of opera and operetta, including operas by Verdi, Wagner, Offenbach, Pucinni, Rossini, Bizet, Tchaikowsky, Mozart and most of Gilbert and Sullivan's ever popular pieces.  To date we have mounted over 100 productions!

In the early years, the shows were put on in school halls. In 1975, the Society was fortunate to be able to perform in the Farrer Theatre at Eton College.  In recent years, the Society has moved its productions to the Norden Farm Centre for Arts in Maidenhead.

In conjunction with the Rotary Club of Windsor St George Gala Night guests have included HRH The Princess Royal, HRH Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh, The Earl and Countess of Wessex and the late HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
